10 of the Greatest Black TV Nerds of All Time

Popular nerds on TV

Carlton Banks

Alfonso Ribeiro’s dance-loving character Carlton was the overachieving cousin of Will Smith on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. While Carlton rarely had much luck when it came to ladies or sports, he was an A-student and the president of several extracurricular organizations. Carlton was so dedicated to his schoolwork and academics that when Will scored slightly higher than him on a standardized test, it essentially crushed his self-esteem and academic aspirations.

TJ Henderson

T.J. Henderson

Smart Guy’s T.J. Henderson, played by Tahj Mowry, was a child prodigy when it came to academics. While it’s an exceptional achievement for students to skip one grade, T.J. skipped all the way from the fourth grade to the 10th grade. The 10-year-old genius had an IQ of 180, possessed a photographic memory and spoke several different languages fluently.

  1. You needed to add animated characters… It would have been really good to see Valerie from 'Josie and the Pussycats' wasn't on the list. She was like Velma from Scooby Do except really hot and sultry not "nerd sexy."
