In her long, storied career, Butler won 13 writing and creative awards. Some of the most impressive awards she earned include the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant in 1995. She won multiple Locus awards for her books including  for her novelette “Bloodchild” in 1984.
