Betty Harris (born July 29, 1940)

Harris earned her bachelor’s and master’s in science from Southern University and Atlanta University, respectively. She earned her doctorate from the University of New Mexico and went on to teach. In addition to a long teaching career, Harris has a patent for a spot test for detecting 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) in the field.  While working at Los Alamos National Laboratory, she developed the test because she was constantly working with explosives. And now she is an expert.
