Contribution to Science: The Nobel Peace Prize winner (2007) is recognized for pioneering the development of “couple climate models,” their use on paralleled super computing architectures, and other interpretation. His work in climate modeling helps measure greenhouse gas emission in the earth’s atmosphere.
He is the second African-American to receive his doctorate in the atmospheric sciences. His expertise in meteorology and oceanography has afforded him the opportunity to serve on variety of national commissions focused on global climate change. He has also advised the federal government on these matters.
