The Rocketeer (1991) made the jetpack a reality. It’s a cool device because like the hoverboard, travel becomes easier and more fun.

Mechas have always been a part of anime. However, Pacific Rim (2013) helped spread that genre to the masses. A giant could do a lot of useful things like help with construction, play sports and fight giant kaijus from alternate realities. This will never happen.
