The First Black Superheroes
There is an assumption that Black Panther is the first Black superhero, but that may be untrue. In the pages of All-Negro Comics, there was Lion Man and Ace Harlem, two characters who saved people and were heroes in their own stories. Lion Man was an African-American on a U.N. mission to Africa to stop people (mostly white people) from harming native people living in the Gold Coast region. He wore a loincloth costume and fought bad guys. He was created in 1947. Many may consider him to be more like Tarzan. Ace Harlem was a gumshoe or P.I. out of a noir film.
