Force Fields or Shields
This concept is as old as science fiction itself. Captain Kirk used them, the Invisible Woman did, too, and they are pretty much everywhere — except the real world. However, that may all change. In 2012, Boeing patented a prototype for force field technology. “The force field would use electromagnetic energy from a laser, microwave generator or electric arc to repel a force field and protect soldiers by heating up the air to intercept shock-waves and attenuate the energy density before it can reach its target,” according to Mark Pomerleau for Defensesystems.com.
