There Are Few Black People in Tech, and the Number Is Smaller Than You Think
There are many different articles that support the claim that there are just not many Black people in gaming. The reality is that the numbers might be smaller than we believe because there is still a need for more data and research. “About 1 percent of entrepreneurs who received venture capital in the first half of last year are black,” according to a study by research firm CB Insights. Professor and game designer Derek Manns said recently at the Game Developers Conference this year that “the percentage of black developers has increased a measly .5 percent — from 2 to 2.5 percent of all developers.” If Black gamers play longer than others, they should have more representation than just 2.5 percent.
