Almost everything on the Internet is either free or very cheap. In regards to Tidal, it is neither. The basic tier is priced at $9.99 per month. For almost $10, you can get standard-definition audio quality that is already offered by most of the competition for free. The higher-definition tier is $19.99 per month and includes exclusive content. It is more than the basic tier of Netflix and Hulu.
The problem is that there are many different services out there for streaming music, such as the free service Spotify. There are advertisements, but to many people that is not an issue. There are even cheap premium trial periods. The problem with Tidal is that there are very few buying options. Tidal could try cheaper tiers that are genre-based. There could be a free option for consumers who don’t want to pay and don’t mind ads. Lower the price, create more tiers, or offer more than just music and music-related videos.
