Marginalized People in Tech Have Less Free Time

According to tech blogger Ashe Dryden, “Marginalized people in tech—women, people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ people, and others—have less free time for a few major reasons: dependent care, domestic work and errands and pay inequity.”

The truth is that open source projects require time, and in most cases they don’t compensate workers. One prominent exception, however, is Google. The company sets aside time for workers to focus on their own projects, so in a way, the company pays for open source projects.
