Battle-Baptiste is the director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In addition to that, she is an associate professor of anthropology at the university. In her career, Battle-Baptiste focused on Black feminism, slavery and the African diaspora. She has worked on various archaeological dig sites, including the Rich Neck Plantation in Williamsburg, Virginia, and W.E.B. Du Bois home in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. She also conducts research at a dig site in the Bahamas.
