Many people know there are robotic dogs and T.rexes on the toy shelves right now. However, more bionic animals, used for various activities, have been developed globally. Here are six different types of robots being made in labs that are currently being used:

Origami Snake Robots

Harvard researchers have designed a paper snake robot that runs on nothing but air. Their flexible bodies allow them to move into areas hard robots can’t. According to the research team led by George Whitesides, the “soft” robots are also able to lift 100 times their weight. They are pretty much a real life Baymax from Big Hero 6.

There are a variety of insect-based robots. In 2012, insect robots were introduced at a TED Talks conference. These tiny robots could swarm, maneuver like flies and even play music.

There is a grasshopper robot that was developed at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom that can leap and walk on all terrains. The robot was developed by Rhodri Armour, a graduate student at the university.

The robotic butterflies were developed by researchers at Johns Hopkins University. Their goal is to learn more about the behavioral patterns of butterflies.

6 Little-Known Facts About Blacks in Gaming

In 2011, there were many different reports that made the case that Black and Hispanic gamers were the most active gamers out there. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, “African American youth between the ages of 8 and 18 play games 30 minutes more per day than white youth, while Hispanics play an average of 10 minutes more.” A Nielsen study came to the conclusion that Black gamers from 18 to 49 spent 16 minutes using a TV to play console games. Both studies conclude that Black gamers play games more than anyone else due to socioeconomic determinants, but that has not been proven by data.

10 HBCUs That Graduate The Most Black STEM Students

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) found in 2014 that 72 percent of Black graduates with a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) doctorate from an historically Black college and university earned their undergraduate degree at an HBCU as well. The top colleges producing STEM graduates are listed below. These top universities and colleges are proof that HBCUs matter and produce high-quality graduates.

The Washington D.C.-based university awards the most STEM degrees — 33 percent of all STEM degrees given out by HBCUs. Howard is at the top of many major categories, based on the study. In biological and biomedical sciences, Howard ranks No. 1, awarding 45 percent of all degrees from HBCUs in the field.

Last week, Lauryn Hill’s 1998 solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. The album will be preserved as a piece of American history available for future generations to enjoy. Her album will join many other artists’ and political figures’ speeches and albums. Diarra is a Malian-born aerospace engineer who contributed to several NASA missions such as Mars Path Finder, the Galileo spacecraft and the Mars Observer. From April 2012 to December 2012, Diarra was the prime minister of Mali until a military coup forced him to resign.

Diop was a Senegalese historian, anthropologist, physicist and politician. His work focused on pre-colonial African history. Throughout his career, Diop studied racial phenotypes and wrote many books about his findings. There is also an university in Senegal named after him.

In a February report, NerdWallet released data on the 111 best cities that support the greatest prosperity for minority business owners. The list contained cities — big and small — that produced either large numbers of businesses or had high revenue streams. The list below shows major cities with mostly African-American populations and their impressive business gains.

Atlanta

Georgia has the third-largest consumer market, valued at more than $73 billion. The city of Atlanta also has decent and affordable housing that contributes to the migration to the city. According to NerdWallet, the average yearly revenue of many businesses is about $52,000-plus. Also, the thriving entertainment industry adds to the prosperity.

According to the NerdWallet data, Miami is 16th out of 111 cities, but the city has some impressive numbers nonetheless. Per 100 people, there are 14 Black/minority-owned businesses. The unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the country at 5.5 percent.
