5 Of The Biggest Problems That May Doom Jay-Z’s Tidal Streaming Service

31-tidal-press-conference.w1403.h933.2xThe Pitch

When Tidal was launched March 30, many of the music industry’s heavy-hitters were backing up Jay Z’s new business venture. Kanye West, Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, Usher and Madonna stood on a stage to present a streaming service that gives the money to the artists, where it belongs.

The problem is that all of these artists combined are worth well north of a billion dollars. If Jay Z wanted to make the case for the struggling artists, get the struggling artists out front and center stage. Make them the mouthpiece because it is difficult to sympathize with the extremely wealthy.  However, Beyonce and others could help promote the service later on, just not initially.

5 of the Most Disappointing Moments of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

age of ultron

1. The Ratio of Comedy to Action (Pacing)

One of the reasons why I’m such a Joss Whedon fan is because I appreciate how he can flawlessly incorporate humor, usually in the form of witty dialogue, with drama and action. And Age of Ultron is hilarious. You really can’t beat the humor in this one. I think it even surpassed its predecessor, which had many great moments on its own. However, some of the humorous moments caused the movie to lag and affected its overall pacing. Take, for example, Tony Stark’s soiree in the beginning of the movie, during which there was a lot of Avengers bro action, jokes and flirting (see No. 5). I loved seeing the Avengers’ chemistry as they casually socialized, but the scene felt drawn out, especially compared to some of the action scenes we see later with Ultron. And speaking of Ultron …

Fantastic Four 2015 Film, and a Look at Doom

So if you haven’t already heard, Fox finally released the full Fantastic Four trailer, and it’s pretty good. It has humor, drama, some action — an all-around good trailer. You’re not here for that though. You’re here for what we’re all here for, and that’s DOOM.

Now if you look closely, you’ll see glowing lines along his face. I say “face” because if this movie takes after the Ultimate Marvel Universe then that’s not a mask, it’s his actual skin. The Ultimate incarnation of Doom has a metallic hide, as his skin from “the accident” that also gives the Fantastic Four their powers. He also has weird-looking goat legs, so hopefully they leave that part out if they’re going the Ultimate route.

All in all Doom looks great in this trailer, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he has in store for us. Hopefully, this movie is as Fantastic as it needs to be to really take the Fantastic Four in a new direction in the movieverse so we can forget all about Cloud Galactus. Oh yeah, I went there.

8 Reasons Marvel Writer Dan Slott Believes There Should Be a Non-White Spider-Man

“The comics can look different than the movies … and we’ll all survive. YAY! (G’night.) pic.twitter.com/zXZwmOHgr0”

— Dan Slott (@DanSlott) Feb. 22

Comic book purists who complain about race changes don’t necessarily challenge things like height, hair, costumes or other superficial details as harshly as race. These purists may be using the comics as a pretext for their racial issues.

“In an age where Samuel L. Jackson is a perfect Nick Fury, we’re past the point where the movies HAVE to look EXACTLY like the comics.”
— Dan Slott (@DanSlott) Feb. 22

The original Nick Fury was a white super spy. By the new millennium, Nick Fury was changed to Black in Marvel’s Ultimate comics line. Samuel L. Jackson’s Fury is the same as the comics. Marvel remedies this by making Black Fury white Fury’s son.

Is Ororo Munroe an Omega-Level Mutant?

Fam, it has come to our attention that a grave disrespect is being paid to our very own Ororo Munroe — Street name: Storm. Mundane title: Headmistress of the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. Regal title: Former Queen of Wakanda — and we can’t really stand for that anymore. What’s the offense? Throwing shade on the mohawk? No. There seems to be some confusion as to whether she is an Omega-Level mutant. Now Carrie McClain has been loving The Goddess of Thunder since Word One. And Leslie Light is the resident Storm comic reviewer. We’ve read the canon, y’all. For us there is no question, Ororo ranks at the very top of any mutant power rankings, alive or dead. For those who may doubt it, we’ll walk you through it step-by-step.

What’s an Omega-Level (OL) Mutant?

As with most Marvel things, there isn’t a canonical answer. The most accepted criteria is that the mutant must have the ability to extremely manipulate matter or energy at will and under their control. Other OL criteria include, but are not limited to: virtual immortality, strong psionic ability or telekinesis and the ability to exist outside of the current universe.

Who Are Some of the Omega-Level Mutants?

All the biggies show up here: Professor X, Magneto, Stryfe … perhaps due to her ability to be the avatar of the Phoenix, Jean Grey often shows up as the best example of an Omega-Level under the “ability to exist outside of the current universe” bullet point. More recently, Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, has been added to the list. He is an example of a character who has grown to become an OL mutant as he’s come to understand his powers more fully.

So, What Are Ororo’s Credentials?

Ororo is best known by her ability to control the weather. It sounds mundane when you put it that way, but let’s unpack that some. How does she control the weather? What she can actually control is the electromagnetic field of the entire planet, and other celestial bodies to boot. She can cause everything from a pleasant mist up to a full-blown Category-5 hurricane.
